In September 2012 I decided to quit my job selling pharmaceuticals. It was a major life decision, but I really wanted to spend more time with my boys who were 1 and 2. My older son had some pulmonary issues since he was a baby and had to be on a nebulizer. He kept getting croup and we thought it was from being exposed to germs at his daycare. His cough got worse and turned into bronchitis and then when I was in San Diego for a new product launch his condition progressed to pneumonia and he ended up in the ER. At that point we decided to get a nanny to limit his exposure and prevent our younger son from getting sick as well. Our nanny was awesome and we loved her, but she was expecting her second child in 8 months and we needed to come up with another plan. We had arrangements with my parents, in-laws, and neighbor to take the boys for a few days each and just before the plan went into play Cal got bronchitis again. I decided the world was telling me that it was time to quit my job and I went for it. The transition was a difficult one though and I found myself unsure how to handle two little boys all day and not go crazy! We were also down to one income so I was worried about spending money. It was a very long winter and I was eating a lot of "kid food". My husband and I watched "Forks Over Knives" one night on Netflix and I decided it was time to make some changes. My younger sister's sorority sister had just the solution for me. The Ultimate Reset from Beachbody. It was a 21-Day program that helped me transition from eating processed foods and GMOs to cooking at home and eating clean. I lost 7 lbs and 2 inches from each thigh just by following this plan. There is no exercise because it's like running a marathon for the "inside" of your body. There were definitely challenges during the 3 weeks (like no alcohol or caffeine), but I made it through. I LOVED the program and became obsessed. I started talking to people about it and decided to become a coach so I could help them through the process.
I started my first Challenge Group in May 2013 with 5 people. We used a private group page on Facebook to help eachother through the program, ask questions and exchange meal prep ideas. Admittedly, it was not my best group. I wasn't sure what I was doing and I didn't post every day, but the participants had great results! My mom lost 8 lbs, my neighbor lost 10 lbs, my sister lost 7 lbs, and one of my friends lost 11 lbs. One of the group members didn't finish and I really took it as a personal failure. I couldn't help but be excited for the women that completed the plan though and it was proof to me that the program really works. It's been one year since that first Challenge Group and there have been many more since. Both fitness and nutrition related groups and I really feel like being a Beachbody Coach has made me a better stay at home mom. It gives me an outlet to help people and a little income to cover my costs and to do fun things with the kids. I also feel like it gives me an identity and purpose beyond being a mom and I need that. This blog is a further extension of my journey as a Beachbody Coach and a way to chronical all the great things I've learned along the way. I'm still a work in progress, but I like that I am growing each day and getting better. I have good days and bad days and certainly don't feel like working out and eating healthy all the time, but when I push myself it's really rewarding. My family also eats better when I'm on a nutrition program so everyone wins!
