My Challenge Groups are normally for adults who want to get in shape and be held accountable, but today I thought it would be fun to do a Challenge with my kids. Meet Cal and Rory ages 4 and 3. The Challenge was to go to 5 local playgrounds in 3 hours. We had to play on every piece of equipment there, have one healthy snack and run one lap around the entire playground before we could leave for the next. The boys loved it and they were so excited to see where we would go next! We started at Cleona Playground on Garfield Street in Cleona, PA and had apples and oranges. We will be sure to bring our golf clubs and a ball next time so that we can use the free 18 hole mini-golf course. This was the biggest playground on our trip and Cal said that the lap around it "made his legs tired", but we made it.
Next we headed to Coleman's Park on 1400 West Maple Street in Lebanon. The highlight of this playground was the "fast slide". The park is also very shaded so it didn't get too hot. We had a few Kirkland Organic Animal Cookies and then ran a lap around the playground. We could see the huge swimming pool and Cal said "It's big enough for a ship to sail in there!" We were just over an hour into the Challenge at this point and it was time to move on the the next spot. Beautex Playground at 129 Van Buren Street in Lebanon was a new location for us. We parked and ran down a big hill to the playground equipment. The favorite here was a crank on the outside of the slide that made gears turn. I held both boys up so they could take a turn cranking the wheel since they weren't quite tall enough to reach. We had some Annie's Cheddar Bunnies on a purple Triceratops, ran a lap around the basketball court and back up the hill to our car.
Progressive Playground at 351 N 1st Street was another new playground for us. There was a cool little keyboard under the slide and a drive-thru window where we pretended to have ice cream, sandwiches and pie ranging between $5-$103. Rory set the prices and served us some Ancient Grain Spelt Pretzels for snack. There was a bus with a slide and a stationary car to drive, but I noticed outside of the gate there was a strange women who looked like she was picking up stones one at a time while doing clumsy yoga moves. I'm pretty sure she was on drugs or drunk so it was time to move on!! We took a quick lap in the direction of our car and headed down the street to our final destination.
With 30 minutes left to spare our last playground was right across from one of our favorite restaurants in Lebanon, Trattoria Fratelli. My kids like to call it Gusteau's Restaurant because it reminds them of the fancy restaurant in the Pixar Film Ratatouille. It was 11;30 at this point and there was finally another 3-year-old to play with! She was cute and ran the lap around the basketball court and swing set with us smiling all the way. There was also a drive-thru window at this playground with a little bench adjacent to it. You can only imagine how much ice cream, sandwiches and pie we served! We finished off the Challenge with a few bottles of water and high-fives all around. We did it! 5 Playgrounds in 3-hours!
